Deadly infant products sold after recalls at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods

Five recalls initiated by stores parent company TJX
For Immediate Release

PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that discount stores T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods sold 19 different recalled products to consumers between 2014 and 2019. In the case of five products, the stores’ parent company TJX initiated the recall. The products included the Rock ‘N Play and Kids II inclined infant sleepers, which are responsible for a number of fatalities, rattles that can break and pose a choking hazard, and electronics that overheat or explode.

A full list of the products can be obtained here.

U.S. Public Interest Research Group Education Fund Consumer Watchdog Adam Garber issued the following statement in response to the news:

“Shoppers expect the holiday lights, toys and other products they buy are safe. When they’re found to be unsafe, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces a recall to remove these dangerous products from store shelves and homes.

“But even though T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods knew about these recalls, they failed to remove deadly products from shelves -- their most basic responsibility. And tragically, some parents purchased inclined sleepers that were recalled after dozens of infants died. The CPSC should issue significant penalties to TJX and moving forward the stores must directly verify recalled products have been removed from shelves to regain the public trust.”
